01.20.09

Enjoy the inauguration today and all the festivities associated with this historic time, even if you’re stuck at work or somewhere else.

The wife tipped me off to this passage from Albert Einstein on the NPR website as part of their This I Believe program that I think is pretty appropriate for today and what Obama stands for:

“It is my belief that there is only one way to eliminate these evils, namely, the establishment of a planned economy coupled with an education geared toward social goals. Alongside the development of individual abilities, the education of the individual aspires to revive an ideal that is geared toward the service of our fellow man, and that needs to take the place of the glorification of power and outer success.”

I’m also reminded of a quote from Chris Rock from his recent HBO special, Kill the Messenger:

“Are we really ready for a black president? We might as well be; we just had a retarded one…”
